Supporting Yorkshire fire services with vital out of hours updates

When Odsal and Fairweather Green fire station were in need of someone to help them make the shift to a long-term lighting investment, updating old wiring and switching to LED, we were there to do the job and tackle a few unexpected problems that cropped up.

Here at BCS Electrics, we are proud to work with and help vital services that keep Yorkshire and its people safe. We have recently completed two major projects for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, specifically at Odsal and Fairweather Green fire stations. This involved updating their lighting on both the ground floors and accommodation areas.Though, like any project involving the emergency services, this required us to react quick, keep calm in a crisis and get the job done with minimal disruption.

We don’t close our doors to our customers at 5pm on Friday afternoons, BCS Electrics is there even when the unexpected happens. As Odsal fire station underwent a refurb, asbestos was discovered. This meant they required some unexpected assistance from us prior to the main job. Asbestos is a harmful man made material with drastic consequences such as scarring on lung tissue and respiratory problems. With safety paramount to any project we do, we managed to handle this effectively by isolating cables whilst the asbestos was removed.

Contributing to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service’ long-term investments

After this, BCS  began the process of stripping all the old wiring above the ceilings and installing brand new wiring. Once this job was done we were able to install new ceilings and new LED lighting. This installation of LED lighting is a long-term investment for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service, which will be much more cost and energy efficient, and also provide a well lit environment.

Contracts manager at BCS, Patrick Robinson said:“Throughout this project we liaised with other contractors on site and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services to complete the work within time frame, but also being flexible around the less conventional, busy day-to-day accommodation life at the fire stations.

“It was our pleasure to do whatever we could to help West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, their role in the communities around Yorkshire is greatly respected and appreciated, so it’s our job to help when they need it.”

Sue Tattersfield from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, overseeing the Odsal project said: “BCS Electrics has carried out electrical maintenance work for West Yorkshire Fire Service for 17 years now and have provided them with a reliable, trustworthy and quality service.

“This job fell nothing short of previous experiences as BCS was able to complete a thorough job whilst being fully flexible and accommodating to the needs of the fire station and accommodation area.”
